Professor Steven Katz here January 20-21

Steven’s theme this year deals with the
large and central issues of the history of the Jewish People and of Judaism in Czarist Russia.

We will begin with an examination of the historical and political conditions that brought Jews to the Czarist Empire in the eighteenth century, and which made it possible both for Jewish culture to take root there and for the Jewish population to grow abundantly. Then we will consider the myriad religious, economic and political developments that occurred in this time and place.
